Carbon Offset Projects
Protecting your land
Carbon sequestration science is showing that not only reducing carbon emissions but also capturing existing carbon will be critical in keeping a healthy climate in the world. DEI works with private land owners to protect their forests and keep them healthy for the purpose of sequestering carbon and selling the credits. Over the last ten years we have worked to protect 385,000 acres of land and our clients have been compensated with over 15 million carbon credits.
Carbon Projects
DEI develops and consults on carbon offset projects with emphasis on Improved Forest Management, Afforestation/Reforestation and Avoided Conversion methodologies through California Air Resources Board, American Carbon Registry, Verra and others. Some of the services we provide are:
Origination-working with landowners to monetize their forested holdings in the most efficient way
Development-building carbon offset projects from the ground up
Feasibility Studies and Desk Reviews- analyzing a project, land base or credit quality and yield to make informed decisions
Inventory-installing bullet proof inventories that are repeatable for 40-100 year time spans
Mapping- Geographic Information Systems(GIS), area quantification, covertype mapping and stratification, drone orthomosaics
Quality Assurance and Quality Control-Oversight of DEI projects and others to ensure quality and backend yields from project financing
Protocol writing - Method development and technical document writing
Biometrics and quantification of offset generation- DEI employs several biometricians and silviculturists for quantification of credits and the forward modeling of removals
FVS modeling- Vegetation projections and simulations over the project life to common practice baseline scenarios. Our modeling team is comprised of foresters with decades of experience to ensure proper common practice scenarios, simulations and accurate outputs.
Several of the larger projects we have consulted on or helped to develop have been listed with California’s Air Resource Board and the Voluntary Market through the American Carbon Registry. Some examples are:
White Mountain Apache Project #1- 89,000 acres and credit issuance of 4,450,000 credits. DEI helped build the project including: protocol writing, inventory, mapping, quality control and verification on the first round and the second round of the project in year 3.
White Mountain Apache Project #2- 150,000 acres and credit issuance of 6,000,000 credits. DEI helped build the project including: feasibility, protocol writing, inventory, mapping, quality control and verification on the first round and the second round of the project in year 3.
Chugach Native Corporation Project #1- 75,000 acres and credit issuance of 5,500,00 credits. DEI consulted to help with the protocol review and writing, inventory and helicopter logistics.
Seldovia Native Association Project #1- 30,000 acres. DEI consulted to help with administration of the inventory, protocol, QA/QC, inventory work, helicopter logistics and data.
English Bay Native Corporation Project #1- 40,000 acres. DEI consulted to help with administration of the inventory, protocol, QA/QC, inventory work, helicopter logistics and data.
Mississippi River Islands Forest Conservation Project- 5,600 acres with projected credit issuance of 815,000 credits over the period. DEI conducted modeling, quantification, project design, inventory design, plan writing, inventory oversight and verification and validation.
Northwest Arkansas IFM- 8,340 acres with projected credit issuance of 775,000 credit over the period. DEI is project manager and conducted origination, design, aggregation, inventory design, inventory, modeling, quantification, monitoring and validation/verification.
All projects passed sequential sampling tests in the first round of sampling. Details can be found on the American Carbon Registry:
