Inventories
Forest Inventory and Analysis(FIA)
DEI engages with National Forests all over the country to provide research level inventories. We have or are currently working in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Arizona and for the Rocky Mountain Research Station to conduct Forest Inventory and Analysis inventories. We have completed inventories on the Boise National Forest, Payette National Forest, Yellowstone NP, Teton NP, Shoshone NF, Bridger-Teton NF and Gallatin NF. Additionally, we completed an inventory of the entire State of New Mexico which included Federal Lands, Private Lands, Indian Reservations, State Lands and County Lands.
Common Stand Exams
DEI has conducted over 100 common stand exam contracts entailing over 45,000 plots. Some standard collection methods we employ are: fixed plots of varying sizes to variable plots with different required averages and tolerances to achieve required error. Brown’s transects, dead standing and down, botany and potential vegetation along with slope, aspects and positions. DEI conducts these common stand exams internally or supervises and administers quality sub-contractors. We work rigorously to ensure accurate, unbiased and precise data is collected by utilizing layers of quality control.
We have worked or are working for the following forests:
Arapahoe Roosevelt National Forest, South Kaibab and North Kaibab National Forests, Tonto National Forest, Apache Sitegreaves National Forest, Coconino National Forest, Lincoln National Forest, Gila National Forest, Valles Caldera National Preserve, Santa Fe National Forest, Carson National Forest, Cibola National Forest, Superior National Forest, Chippewa National Forest, White River National Forest, Big Horn National Forest, Pike National Forest, Bridger-Teton National Forest, Shoshone National Forest, Desoto National Forest, Boise and Payette National Forests.
In Arizona we have worked on all of the National Forests for the overall purpose of providing intensive data for modeling and landscape level management. This data is now being used to conduct single tree selection thinning and logging contracts through the 4 Forest Restoration Initiative.
DEI has conducted over 1000 plots while working with the Bureau of Indian Affairs to conducted their ten year Continuous Forest Inventories. We have worked on the Laguna Indian Reservation, Jemez Indian Reservation and White Mountain Apache Indian Reservation.
